Barack and Joe, accompanied by Michelle and Jill, spoke to a crowd of 35,000 filling Woodward Avenue in front of the Detroit Public Library. They were greeted with gifts of Red Wings jerseys.

While Barack was appearing at other locations in Michigan, Michelle was on her own tour of the state. She ended her day at the state HQ in Detroit to attend a vice presidential debate-watch party and speak to volunteers.

Jay-Z gave a free concert for 10,000 fans, in support of registering to vote. Thousands registered on the spot. "I'm voting for Barack Obama," said Hova, "But that's just me."

Legendary singer-songwriter Carole King toured Obama field offices and other locations across Michigan, just part of the campaigning she did across the country. At many stops, she led the audience in an a capella version of "You've Got A Friend".
